First Caravels of Columbus on stamp.

Argentina - 1892 [Scott #90, 91]

  

The caravels of Christopher Columbus (Pinta, Nina and Santa Maria) was the design of a two stamp set Argentina commemorating 1892, the IV Centennial of Discovery of America. The artist responsible for this design (below) was Eduardo Martino. 

Each value was printing under 200,000 stamps. Released October 12, 1892, this set bears the distinction of being the first depiction of a Columbian ship on stamp. The stamps are issued in two values: two centavos in pale blue and five centavos in dark blue.
